Diferences between silver 925, 950 and 1000 silver jewerly

There are different levels of purity of silver jewelry. Pure silver jewerly doesn exist (100% silver) we have a “1000 silver” but in fact you can not make 1000 silver jewelry because it is a very soft material, however there are silver jewels that come very close to it. Of course, you should use an alloy with another metal. In another perspective the 950 silver is an alloy of 95% silver with 5% of other materials (usually copper). It’s easier to work with 950 silver than 1000 silver because it’s harder to manage. The silver most popular (for shoping) is 925 silver, containing 92.5% of silver with 7.5% of other materials. The silver 900 is a silver of very poor quality for the great amount of copper that contains until the up to 800.

It’s kwon when  the silver has a lot copper it turns a little yellow and the final product is easily getting black, this process is called  sulfuration. There is a strong probability when you use the product, the skin gets green, like fantasy products bathed in rhodium. The 900 silver is not very popular because of its poor quality. Generally to identify if silver is 925 or 950 simply see a stamp marked on the jewel is more than enough however in other publications as I will say how to identify quality silver.

It is a very recurrent question of the customers about the care of silver because the silver after a certain time  its become a bit yellowish and then turns black. This really is a natural thing and you should not be alarmed, this happens because a process similar to the oxidation called sulphuration. Sulphuration is a similar proccess like oxidation but silver reacts with hydrogen sulfide (H2S) that is also very present in the environment or in the air. The sulphuration produced by the silver causes it to become black or yellowish, this happens to any jewel of silver even the purest ones that are in the market. Some factors that accelerate the process of silver sulfuration are:

– The different PH of the skin, there are people who have a more acidic pH (normal is 5 or 6)

– According to the type of water in the area where you live.

– Mineral-medicinal waters with a high content of sulfur.

– Use of perfumes and colognes. Also some chemicals and soaps.

– The place where silver is stored.
